Hanover Cottage dates back to the 16th or 17th Century and was originally a single storey longhouse that stood alone outside of Whitby. It was extended in the Georgian era and again in Victorian times, when Whitby was developed into a popular seaside resort. Its surroundings now consist of large Victorian town houses and individual detached houses. The house has been a much loved family home for over 30 years and we opened as self catering holiday accommodation in 2011. With features such as Victorian and Georgian fireplaces, sash windows, high ceilings and tasteful furnishings, it is a homely and comfortable place to stay. The house has gas central heating, thermosatically controlled radiators and the wooden sash windows have secondary glazing in place (some of which are removed in warmer months). In early 2013 a new boiler was installed.
We have taken care to provide everything the self catering guest requires for an enjoyable stay, with all home comforts and much more. As a small family business we pride ourselves on providing a clean, well equipped, good standard of accommodation alongside a friendly personal service. On entering Hanover Cottage into a huge kitchen you will find a range of electrical appliances and units, plus a table and chairs. From the kitchen you can access the traditional conservatory which has views of the garden and is ideal for casual dining and drinks. The lovely gardens are well established, having been nutured and cared for by the family over many years. Easily accessed from both the kitchen and conservatory there is a patio area with a large table and chairs, perfect for outdoor dining. A BBQ is also provided for guests use. There are 3 steps up to the main lawn and the garden provides a secure area for children to play and explore. The private driveway adjacent to the house has a gate which can be closed to ensure children are safe. The house is positioned to retain privacy and is slightly higher than road level.
A central hallway leads to a living room, dining room, snug, cloak room and additional toilet. In the spacious living room you will find 2 comfortable sofas, 2 chairs and Free Sat T.V. A DVD player is provided, as well as an extensive selection of books and games for the whole family. The formal dining room has a large dining suite to seat 8 guests and has lovely views of the front garden.
