Hanover Cottage has been a much loved family home for over 30 years and we opened as 4-star self catering holiday accommodation in 2011. The central part of the house dates back to at least the 17th Century and was developed in Victorian and Georgian Times, becoming a substantial 2-storey house. Features such as Victorian and Georgian fireplaces, sash windows and high ceilings remain. The house has a welcoming feel and is tastefully decorated throughout. It is very well equipped and we offer all of the comforts of home and much more, including unlimited WIFI. We have taken care to provide everything the self catering guest requires, and as a small family business we pride ourselves on providing a clean and high standard of accommodation alongside a friendly personal service. Many of our guests return each year, with some visiting more than once a year!
On entering Hanover Cottage into a huge kitchen you will find a range of electrical appliances and units, plus a table and chairs. Everything is provided for guests to easily prepare meals and drinks. From the kitchen you can access the traditional conservatory which has views of the garden and is ideal for casual dining and drinks. The beautiful landscaped gardens are well established, having been nutured and cared for by the family over many years. This ample outdoor space is an unusual feature for holiday accommodation in Whitby and it is ideal for children to play and explore. A patio area is accessed from both the kitchen and conservatory and has a large table, parasol and chairs providing a perfect setting for outdoor dining and drinks. A BBQ is also provided for guests use. Another feature which is very rare for Whitby is the private driveway adjacent to the house which has space for 3-4 cars. The driveway has a gate which can be closed to ensure that vehicles and children are safe. The house is positioned with one side of the house facing the road and it is slightly higher than road level. Therefore the house retains privacy.
A central hallway with a cloak room leads to a living room, dining room, snug, corridor and ground floor toilet. In the spacious living room you will find comfortable seating, Free Sat T.V, DVD player, docking station and an extensive selection of books and games for the whole family. The formal dining room has a large dining suite to seat 8 guests, an open fire and lovely views of the front garden. The snug has comfortable chairs and an additional television with combined DVD player. A traditional curved staircase leads to a large landing area, 2 double bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms (1 with single sized bunk beds). There is a family bathroom with a glass shower enclosure and the master bedroom has an en-suite with a bath. All bedrooms are tastefully decorated and have traditional solid wood furniture, plenty of storage space and a chair. The house has gas central heating, thermostatic controls on most radiators and secondary glazing (this is removed from the bedroom windows in the warmer months).
Duvets, pillows, bed linen, towels and a small selection of toiletries are provided. Our prices include gas, electric, water and WIFI usage and we don't charge a booking fee. A welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, jam, biscuits and a bottle of white wine awaits your arrival! Please view the list of items provided.
