The accommodation is very spacious and ideal for large families or groups wishing to holiday together in the popular coastal resort of Whitby. As well as an array of attractions to suit the whole family you will find a good selection of shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. Pannett Park is nearby, and as well as being a lovely area to wander through on the way into town it has a fantastic adventure playground suitable for all ages.
Hanover Cottage dates back to the 16th or17th Century and we believe it was originally a longhouse that stood alone on the outskirts of Whitby. It was extended in the Georgian era and again in Victorian times, when Whitby was developed into a popular seaside resort. Hanover Cottage became the substantial 2-storey home we see today, and its surroundings now consist of large Victorian town houses and individual detached houses. The property is slightly higher than road level and it is positioned with the side of the house adjacent to the road, therefore it retains privacy.
With features such as Victorian and Georgian fireplaces, high ceilings and a range of tasteful furnishings it provides a relaxed environment with all the comforts of home and so much more. The house has gas central heating and radiators in each room, most of which have thermostats and can be adjusted to suit. The house has gradually been insulated over the years and most of the windows have secondary glazing in place, especially in the winter months.
The huge kitchen is fully equipped with a range of electrical appliances and a table and chairs. The house has a traditional conservatory with views of the garden and is perfect for casual dining and drinks. The gardens are beautiful and are well established, having been nutured and cared for over many years. Easily accessed from both the kitchen and conservatory there is a patio area with a large table and chairs, perfect for outdoor dining. A BBQ is also provided for guests use. There are 3 steps up to the main lawn and the garden provides a secure area for children to play and explore. The private driveway adjacent to the house has a gate which can be closed to ensure children are safe.
Glass doors lead from the conservatory into the spacious living room, with sofas, chairs and a television. A DVD player is provided, as well as an extensive selection of books and games for the whole family. A central hallway leads to a formal dining room, a snug, an additional ground floor toilet, and cloakroom. The formal dining room has a large dining suite to seat 8 guests and has lovely views of the front garden. Next to the dining room is a snug with 3 comfortable chairs and an additional television.
A traditional curved staircase leads to a large landing area, 2 double bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms (1 with bunk beds) and a family bathroom with a toilet, basin and glass shower enclosure. The master double bedroom has an en-suite with a toilet, bath and twin basins. All bedrooms are tastefully decorated and have traditional solid wood furniture, plenty of storage space and a chair.
Towels, duvets, pillows, bed linen and a selection of toiletries are provided for your stay as well as a welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, biscuits and wine.
We can accept up to 2 additional guests if they are infants and require a travel cot or fold-away bed. 2 travel cots and 2 fold-away beds are available plus 2 high chairs, intercom system and safety gate. Please request travel cots or fold-away beds at the time of booking so they can be prepared for your arrival.
